Marvel’s “WandaVision” has become something of a rarity in today’s streaming landscape: weekly must-watch TV, and with good reason. “WandaVision” puts forth a level of emotion and respect for its medium that has rarely been seen from the multi-billion-dollar franchise it hails from. The show, if somehow you have not yet seen it, follows the magical Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and her robotic husband Vision (Bettany) as they navigate life away from the Avengers in an idyllic sitcom world even as darker forces lurk unseen. The false ideal of suburbia has long been a lens to examine human issues. Think…

This piece first appeared in our February 2021 Magazine. The increased national conversation surrounding race that occurred in the wake of the murders of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor saw with it a demand for works by Black creators. This demand led to what became a ubiquitous sight: the anti-racism reading and watch lists. Across the internet, in cozy Instagram graphics and in national publications, the lists poured in. They are typically filled with nonfiction books “The Autobiography of Malcolm X” or “Between the World and Me” or “Beloved” or “Their Eyes Were Watching God” to cover the fiction bases. You…

It was an ugly senior day for the UAB men’s basketball team as they fell to Old Dominion 65-58 in their final Conference USA home game.
