Homecoming has been altered to fit with social distancing guidelines this year but that doesn’t mean you can’t celebrate. Here are some essential UAB homecoming traditions that are still happening this week.
Paint the Town
This year Paint the Town will look a little different. Instead of painting the campus, members of the UAB community made posters that will be displayed in the buildings. If you aren’t on campus at all, you can see some posters on UAB’s homecoming Instagram.
Blazer Showdown
Blazer Showdown entries can be viewed on the UAB homecoming Instagram on Monday. After you watch you can vote for your favorite group from the link in @uabhomecoming’s bio by 9 p.m. Monday.
Pancakes and Karaoke
On Tuesday the first 100 students to RSVP will receive a free pancake dinner. Those who don’t can still use their meal plan to enter the Commons. After you get your meal you can tune into the homecoming Instagram page to see your fellow Blazers sing the song of their choice.
Blazer Spirit T-shirt Drive
The first 120 students to RSVP by Tuesday can bring in a gently worn t-shirt to donate and get a homecoming t-shirt and button in return.
Fight Song Competition
The Fight Song competition is a staple of UAB homecoming. Tune in on the UAB homecoming Instagram to watch the stream at 12 p.m. Thursday.
Homecoming Parade
UAB will have a virtual homecoming parade this Friday at 12 p.m. You can watch from anywhere on the UAB homecoming Instagram. Check it out and celebrate being a Blazer.
