UAB dominated Alcorn State in the first game of the Andy Kennedy era winning 99-50.
The Blazers were firing on all cylinders taking the lead with 16:48 left in the first half and never letting up.
UAB was up by 23 at the half and that lead just kept growing.
Offensively, UAB shot for 53.4% and 40% from the three-point line while Alcorn State only made 30.4%.
Jalen Benjamin led all scorers with 21 points while doling out four assists. Quan Jackson was equally as important to the team, contributing 14 points and nine rebounds.
UAB shared the love with 11 players scoring and five scoring in the double digits. They also led in assists 11-2.
This is the highest scroring performance by the Blazers since they put 100 on Western Kentucky on March 4, 2018.
The Blazers were equally dominant defensively forcing Alcorn State into a number of turnovers and contested shots. Junior center, Trey Jemison, managed six of UAB’s 10 blocks by himself.
Turnovers doomed the Braves. Alcorn State had 24 turnovers to UAB’s 11. The Blazers turned many of these opportunities into fastbreak points.
Fouls were another sore spot for Landon Bussie’s squad. The Braves committed 23 fouls, and UAB capitalized scoring 31 points from the line.
The moment of the game came early in the second half as Quan Jackson completed a dunk from an assist by Tyreek Scott-Grayson. This was the second of back-to-back dunks by the Blazers.
UAB returns to Bartow on Saturday to take on the Southeastern Louisiana Lions at 2 p.m. The game will be available to stream on CUSA.tv and on the radio on WJOX 100.5 in Birmingham.
