College Democrats
The College Democrats at UAB has pledged to support the philosophy and purpose of the Democratic Party, and its intention is to support efforts to increase the participation of college students in Democratic Party affairs.
“We are looking to get as many UAB students as possible involved and engaged with the American political process,” said Peyton Perry, President of College Democrats.
College Democrats offers the chance to work with Democrats across AL and the country. They also offer education about the philosophy of the Democratic Party and how to network for a career in public service.
They will be hosting an election watch party Nov. 3 and have an ongoing workshop series on Democratic Party values.
The College Democrats at UAB currently has 32 members, and welcome anyone interested. If you want more information or would like to join, contact their president, Peyton Perry, at pperry26@uab.edu.
College Republicans
The purpose of College Republicans is to offer a forum for young Republicans to discuss policy, current events and politics.
“The most unique opportunity we offer to members is the ability to interact with state and federal elected officials,” said Andrew Sandlin, President of College Republicans. “This is something not every college student gets to do and offering that connection from student to policy maker is something we strive to do.”
Unfortunately, COVID-19 has put their plans on hold. Normally, the College Republicans would be planning events that allow members to interact with state officials and discuss current events with fellow members. They also interact with the University of Alabama chapter to attend their policy talks and have been able to do this over zoom in that past few weeks.
There are currently about 88 members on the roster, and they’re always looking for more people to expand their membership. If you’re interested in joining or learning more information, you can contact the recruitment officer, Christopher Wilson, email at clwil128@uab.edu.
