UAB is 6-0 and off to their best start in program history as they prepare to face Southern and Chattanooga this week. The Blazers skated past their toughest challenge thus far in the season with a win at East Tennessee State this past weekend thanks to a late three-pointer by Jalen Benjamin.
Vs. Southern, Dec 16
UAB welcomes its second SWAC opponent of the year into Bartow on Wednesday. This will be the sixth all-time meeting between Southern and UAB. UAB leads the series 5-0.
The Jaguars have struggled this season going 0-3 versus a tough nonconference schedule.
Jayden Sadler is the player to watch for the Jaguars. The junior guard has been among their most productive players on both sides of the floor, contributing 11 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.
Still, UAB should walk away with this one.
The game is set to stream 6:30 PM on CUSA.tv and will be available to listen to on WJOX 100.5 in Birmingham.
Vs. Chattanooga, Dec. 19
Chattanooga looks to be the best team that UAB has faced this season. Like UAB, the Mocs sit at a undefeated 6-0.
This is the twelfth all time meeting between the two teams. UAB leads the series 8-3.
Chattanooga has dominated much of its competition to this point, but those wins have come against less than stellar opponents.
Malachi Smith is the player to watch for the Mocs. He is a formidable player that has put up double-doubles in five of Chattanooga’s six games this season.
UAB has the edge but expect the Mocs to make it close.
The game is to stream at 2 PM on CUSA.tv and will be available to listen to on WJOX 100.5 in Birmingham.
Around the League
Marshall is off to a hot start on the season with a 4-0 start. Their win over a good Ohio team was big in proving their talent against good competition. In those four wins, Taevion Kinsey has looked like all-conference player. Wins over solid Toledo and Northern Iowa programs could cement their place at the top of Conference USA before the start of the conference season.
