Despite a third inning tie, the UAB baseball team was unable to comeback to beat the Troy Trojans as Troy scored nine more runs throughout the game Tuesday night.
Carson Knight started his eighth game as pitcher for UAB (10-21,3-9 CUSA) as he pitched for one inning with one strikeout and three runs against him. There would be nine other pitchers for the Blazers as Matthew Reed (0-1) took the loss also having three runs against him and one strikeout for one inning. Chandler Simpson led in batting for the Blazers as he had 5 at bats with two hits, one run, and one RBI.
Troy (15-16,3-6 SBC) pitcher Ryan Pettys started for the Trojans pitching two innings with two strikeouts and three runs against him. Kyle Gamble (2-2) would take the win pitching for four innings with zero runs and two strikeouts. Caleb Bartolero and Dalton Sinquefield would both hit a homerun for the Trojans.
The Trojans scored first at the top of the first with three runs as UAB answered back with two runs at the bottom of the first and one in the bottom of the second to tie the game.
Troy would answer back by scoring six runs in the fourth with three runs being scored unearned and two more scored with bases being loaded and walked or hit-by-pitch. The Trojans would score two more times in the fifth increasing their lead 11-3 with a homerun by Bartolero and a William Sullivan single hit that RBI Sinquefield to home.
Troy would score one last time in the seventh inning with Sinquefield hitting a homerun and be up 12-3 until the Blazers scored their last run on the night at the bottom of the eighth with a Pate Fullerton hitting a single down the center field to get an RBI for John Marc Mullins to run home.
Neither team scored in the ninth inning ending the matchup between the teams 12-4.
UAB will play conference rival Florida Atlantic (16-16,5-7 CUSA) this weekend in a 3-game series on April 17-18 in Birmingham.
