Men’s basketball picks up LSU transfer Josh LeBlanc, Sr
Men’s basketball head coach Andy Kennedy continues to assemble his roster for the upcoming season, adding a sixth newcomer to the roster in LSU transfer Josh LeBlanc, Sr.
The 6-7 forward played for a single season at LSU and two at Georgetown before that.
LeBlanc averaged 9.1 points and 7.3 rebounds his freshman year with the Hoyas, earning Big East All-Freshman honors.
“We are excited to add Josh to our UAB basketball family,” Kennedy said. “Josh is a player that will bring high-major ability to our front line. His talent to defend, rebound and be a playmaker in our front court will add versatility to what we believe is a formidable team.”
LeBlanc transferred from the Georgetown program following a civil complaint that saw him agree to a Consent Stay Away Order Without Admissions.
LeBlanc joins a transfer-heavy roster that Kennedy has assembled. He joins two SEC transfers in KJ Buffen and Jamal, South Alabama transfer Tyreke Locure, USF transfer Justin Brown, Tulane transfer Jordan Walker and Odessa Junior College transfers Elijah Tate and Ad Diedhiou for the upcoming season.
NCAA adopts new name, image and likeness rules
After years of the NCAA barring college athletes from profiting on their name, image and likeness (NIL), the association has given in to pressure from athletes and political figures and removed the prohibitions.
NIL rights refer to an athlete’s right to their own publicity. Under new rules, athletes will be able to earn compensation from businesses from appearing in advertisements and promote events using their likeness, among other things.
The rules governing NIL deals vary widely by state because the laws governing athletes compensation are a patchwork of state laws, not a single federal one. In Alabama, legislation went in effect on July 1.

UAB baseball Jess Davis announced on Twitter Friday that he was committing to Mississippi State.
The ABCA/Rawlings Golden Glove award honoree was a major contributor to the Blazers this past season, with a perfect fielding percentage on the season.
