UAB defeated the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 52-38 behind a career performance from Dewayne McBride.
McBride gained 210 yards for the Blazers and scored four of the Blazers’ seven touchdowns.
UAB started the game strong with a six-yard rushing touchdown by Jermaine Brown Jr. three minutes into the first half.
The Bulldogs received a 22-yard advantage after receiving two Blazer penalties. LA Tech freshman JD Head threw a complete pass to Smoke Harris for a five-yard rushing touchdown tying the score with six minutes left in the first half.
UAB kept the score tied at 7-7 throughout the first quarter, however the LA Tech’s Harris was able to score a 18-yard rushing touchdown only one minute into the second quarter.
DeWayne McBride led the Blazers in the second quarter scoring a 20-yard rushing touchdown to tie the score again. as well as 17-yard rushing touchdown, after Matt Quinn made a 36-yard field goal, giving the Blazers a three-point advantage in the second half.
After several turnovers in the third quarter, McBride rushed for a 43-yard gain after Blazer teammate Brown Jr. gained eight. This led to a six-yard rushing touchdown for quarterback Dylan Hopkins.
LA Tech started the fourth quarter with a 30-yard rush by Harris. LA Tech’s Jacob Barnes kicked a 21-yard field goal closing the score gap to 31-24.
McBride scored two more touchdowns in the fourth quarter and UAB running back Lucious Stanley ran a 38-yard rushing touchdown with 1:22 left in the game.
LA Tech ended the game with one-yard rushing touchdown after UAB’s Reese Burkhart kicked a 37-yard kickoff caught by LA Tech’s Jamison Kelly.
