Jordan “Jelly” Walker, the electrifying point guard who powered UAB to the NCAA tournament, has announced his intention to declare for the NBA draft while maintaining his college eligibility.
The Port Washington, N.Y. native was the breakout player of the season and was named Player of the Year by Conference USA. The junior guard averaged team-high 20.3 points and 4.9 per game. It was that high-energy performance that had UAB fans in love with “Jelly”.
Walker thanked God and the staff and players at UAB in a letter posted to Twitter announcing his intention.
“It was a tremendous season filled with great moments and even greater people I will never forget,” Walker wrote.
While Walker has declared for the draft, he has not sacrificed his college eligibility and may elect to stay with the team for a senior season.
The team will lose graduating seniors Michael Ertel and Quan Jackson next season. Head coach Andy Kennedy has been recruiting transfers again, adding brothers Ledarrius and Ty Brewer from East Tennessee State and Eric Gaines from LSU
