The “Don’t Stay Silent Disco” this past week was a blast! Aura participated in the “Don’t Stay Silent Disco” hosted by the UAB Collegiate Recovery Committee, UAB Wellness Promotion and UAB Student Media. Despite its name, the “Don’t Stay Silent Disco” is indeed a silent disco, offering a fun and inclusive experience to those who may have sensory issues or social anxiety. As a part of UAB’s Wellness Week, this silent disco specifically aimed to raise awareness about safe alcohol use, bystander intervention and preventing interpersonal violence.
This event was filled with dancing, face paint and delicious food from UAB Dining, specifically a loaded mashed potatoes and mac and cheese bar. The Aura team hung out outside of Gold Hall with a neon paint booth, offering face-painting for people coming to the party. The Steel City Room in Gold Hall was bursting at the seams from attendance! We loved trying out different designs, painting anything from flowers to butterflies to Blaze the dragon. According to our Managing Editor, Olivia Blanton, her favorite part of the event was getting to see so many UAB students having fun together (and, of course, getting to tell them about Aura)!
