Football announces recent graduate ticket deal

Former UAB students who graduated between spring 2020 and spring 2021 will be able to claim a spot at the Blazers’ first season in Protective stadium.

The UAB Department of Athletics is offering these recent graduates free season tickets for the 2021 season after the COVID-19 capacity restrictions on athletic events in 2020-21 seasons.

An email from UAB Athletics will be sent to recent graduates @uab.edu email address with detailed instructions on how to claim their tickets, and the department gives instructions on its website.

Six Blazer football players land on preseason watchlists

Over the past week, six Blazer football players were named to preseason awards watchlists.

Senior offensive linemen Colby Ragland and Sidney Wells were both named to the watchlist for the Outland Trophy which honors the nations best interior lineman.

Ragland also received a nod for the Wuerffel Trophy watchlist which honors the nation’s best community servant in college football.

Senior safety Kristopher Moll was named to the Bronko Nagurski Trophy watchlist, honoring the nation’s best defensive player for the second straight year. Moll is also on the Bednarik Award watchlist

Sophomore Matt Quinn was named to the Lou Groza Award preseason watchlist, honoring the nation’s best college kicker.

Junior running back Jermaine Brown, Jr. was named the to the Hornung Award watchlist, honoring the nation’s most versatile player.

Men’s basketball announces 2021-22 schedule

The UAB Blazers men’s basketball team announced their 31-game 2021-22 schedule on July 30. The schedule is highlighted by matchups with NCAA tournament teams North Texas, Morehead State and West Virginia, who will be the first Big 12 team to play the Blazers in Birmingham since 2005.

Volleyball announces 2021 schedule

The Blazer volleyball team announced their fall 2021 schedule this past week. The Blazers are looking to build off last season’s momentum where they reached the Conference USA tournament for the first time since 2013. The 24-game schedule features 10 nonconference and 14 conference games.

The Blazers will begin play with an exhibition match against Jacksonville State in Jacksonville, Ala. on Aug. 21 before opening the regular season at the Troy Preseason Invitational tournament on Aug. 28 and 29 where they will play Ole Miss and Troy.

Softball picks up North Texas Transfer

Bailey Tindell, a transfer pitcher from North Texas, was announced as the latest Blazer softball signee this past week by head coach Joe Guthrie.

We’re excited that Bailey has chosen to be at UAB,” Guthrie said. “We can’t wait to see her develop here.”

Tindell spent three seasons with the Mean Green, pitching 145.3 innings and recording 55 strikeouts for UAB’s conference rival.
