Coach Norton and the Blazers’ run in the Conference USA tournament came to end on Thursday after a 71-65 loss to Louisiana Tech in the quarterfinals.
UAB played hard throughout but could not keep up with the Lady Techsters and all-conference player Keiunna Walker, who had a game-high 29 points.
Despite their struggles to defend Walker, UAB had plenty of chances down the stretch to take the game but could not buy a bucket when it mattered most.
With their win, Louisiana Tech moves on to play Middle Tennessee in the semifinals on Friday night.
Zakyia Weathersby had a team-high 19 points and eight rebounds. Her eight rebounds moved her to 735 career rebounds and ninth all-time for UAB.
With Margaret Whitley’s 14-point performance on Thursday, she eclipsed the 1,000 career point mark, making her the 31st player in school history to hit the milestone.
The Blazers started the tournament with a 74-62 win against Western Kentucky in the second round on Wednesday but were unable to advance any further in postseason play.
UAB finishes the season with a record of 16-15 overall and 8-10 in conference play. Next season will mark the Blazers’ last in Conference USA.
