USGA held an informal meeting with a special session Nov. 9. In this meeting they approved the 2022 budget allocations and met with their school and non-school committees to discuss upcoming projects.

Sarah Tran, vice president of finance, presented the Spring 2022 budget allocations for student organizations.

The budget is created when student organizations submit a request for how much money they need and what they plan to use it for. The finance department then has a meeting with the student organization to assess needs and come up with a final budget allocation.

After a brief debate about the budget, USGA motioned to approve the allocations.

The School of Health Professions established the first wheelchair basketball club at UAB earlier this month and they are working on getting more students involved. They are also organizing a dinner with the dean where students will get to network with others in their major.

The senators for the College of Arts and Sciences said they are working on refurbishing Heritage Hall. This would include fixing outlets that don’t work and beautifying the interior. They are also working on furthering communication between the arts and sciences senators and students by putting profiles of the CAS senators on TVs in Heritage Hall.

Senators for Collat School of Business opened a living learning center on the fourth floor of McMahon. They have eight business students living there and are working to get more involved.

They are also working towards creating a mentor center for business underclassmen to get one on one advice from upperclassmen and graduate students on what their next career step should be.

The senators for the Collat School of Business and School of Public health are planning networking events for students in their respective schools to connect with others in their future career field.

Senators for the School of Engineering are working on creating an engineering student Instagram account and an undergraduate research fair.

The School of Nursing senators rebooted a podcast for nursing students called “The Anatomy of Nursing School.” They currently have two new episodes out that are available on Spotify and Apple Music.

Both the committee of academic affairs and campus life are working with the UAB library system in order to help students become more aware of the resources available in the library.
