On Wednesday Jan. 29, UAB’s Multicultural Council hosted its 12th annual International Bazaar in the Campus Recreation Center.
Upon entering the basketball court turned cultural portal, students scanned their One Cards, signed a consent form and began to enjoy games, dancing and food from the global community from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Garrett Stephens, the Multicultural Council Executive Director, explained that the Bazaar is a needed event because of the university’s significant diversity.
“This is a celebration, it brings people together and it allows people to highlight their cultures, so the dances that we have, the music that we have and the different food that we have from around the area all highlights that,” Stephens said.
Enticing students with free food, drinks and entertainment from the Mediterranean to Asia; this year’s International Bazaar was 12 years in the making.
“This is the first time that it’s been this big, usually it’s very small, very intimate, so this is the first time that the event has been an affair,” Stephens said.

Stephens noted that the Bazaar would not be possible without the Multicultural Council, a group of 14 students that work to educate the campus on different cultural issues and social justice issues around campus.
Applications to join the Council are available now on B-Sync, and students are encouraged to like the group on Facebook and follow their Instagram and Snapchat accounts at UAB_MC.
