Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Even though the holiday falls on a Tuesday this year, Birmingham still has plenty going on to make sure you have a fun and festive day.
St. Patrick’s Day began in the 17th century as a Christian feast day before becoming what we know it to be today. According to CAB International, the day officially celebrates the life of St. Patrick, as well as the arrival of Christianity in Ireland.
But that is not why we are here.
Over the years, especially in this country, St. Patrick’s Day has become an excuse to have a good time. There are many events every year that celebrate this holiday in the established tradition. If you are still trying to find something to do tonight outside of your routine, we have a few suggestions for shaking things up.
For those who are all about supporting local breweries, Cahaba Brewing Company is hosting their first ever ShamROCK event, featuring craft beer and local bands. If delicious local beer was not motivation enough, Shindigs Catering food truck will be serving up gourmet comfort food all evening.
Cahaba Brewing will have a limited release Irish Stout on tap, and their American Blonde will be available for $3 per can. Skee-Ball and pinball are available in the game room, and the brewery has promised some great giveaways over the course of the night. The taproom is located at 2616 3rd Ave. South.
If you do not want to be restricted to just beer, Black Market Bar & Grill, located in the heart of Five Points, is also hosting St. Patrick’s Day festivities. Their party kicks off at 6 p.m., featuring a free show from Ryan O’Connor and Zach Doss. Black Market will also have food and drink specials all night long, including an Irish themed menu and $7 Car Bombs. This one is sure to be packed out in no time, so get there early and stay awhile.
If you and your friends just want to go all out for St. Patty’s Day, then Innisfree is the place to be. Although it is closer to a dive bar than Cahaba Brewing or Black Market, it will undoubtedly have the biggest party. Innisfree is throwing a “24 Hours of Madness” event, which starts at 6 a.m. Tuesday morning. This event begins with a large serving of beer and eggs. The party will go on strong until Wednesday morning, with plenty of beer and liquor specials to keep it chugging along.
Innisfree is on 29th St. South, across from Babalu and Moe’s BBQ, so you can grab some good food before you head over to the bar.
All in all, Birmingham has some great, festive events happening this St. Patrick’s Day. Check out one of these parties, or discover something new; just remember to be safe and have an awesome St. Patrick’s Day.
