Birmingham Fashion Week is about to hit the streets with some big names like August AtelierBirmingham Fashion Week is approaching. From May 7-9, the city will become a southern capital of fashion, with many designers showcasing their wares. These designersare clamoring to be as successful as August Getty Atelier.
Getty is one of the youngest designers to ever display a collection at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week. At the age of 20, Getty has received the attention of celebrities like Perez Hilton and Kristin Cavallari.
People are talking about the debut of his fall and winter 2015/2016 collection, something that no one expected. Usually, if a fashion designer has never shown their collection on the notorious runway of New York Fashion Week, the designer will pull out all the stops to be remembered. Getty did the opposite: he brought in an elegance and beauty that is still remembered long past the expiration of the event.
Getty thought that his collection should be dark; so he decided to make lace, the color black, leather and a splash of gray the focal points of his collection. Tailored silhouettes that emphasized the waist line dominated his collection, and those pieces will surely be the trend for the upcoming seasons. Getty’s collection is full of sculpted shapes.
My thoughts:
Even though some may say that Getty’s fall and winter collection might be a bit simple, I believe his collection breathes creativity and uniqueness. Getty is one of my favorite designers this season. He is new to fashion week so his approach is a little different. The black, leather and lace collection made his entrance to fashion week even more interesting!
Even though these materials may sound like something you might have already seen, let me reassure you that you have not seen this kind of collection before. Getty takes these elegant materials and makes each outfit into something different. When each model comes out into the runway, they show a brand new sleek and beautiful design. He has a way of making each design into something you could see yourself wearing to a party or a show.
For a designer to be so well-received at such a young age is unheard of, and Getty is taking full advantage of his position.
