“Hamilton” takes the stage at the BJCC

What is there to say about “Hamilton” that hasn’t been said before? Since 2015, the musical has reinvigorated the musical theatre genre with its catchy songs and beloved characters. This winter, Hamilton is taking the stage at the BJCC’s Concert Hall from January 24 to February 4.

You don’t need me to tell you “Hamilton” is good, but I will anyway. During its roughly three-hour run time, the show never ceases to be entertaining; the songs, which blend a catchy fuse of R&B, hip-hop and rap elements, are incredible, and the performances are emotional and gripping.

From the jump, “Alexander Hamilton” showcases the wide range of this cast and sets a vibrant tone for the rest of the show. Edred Utomi is a force as Alexander Hamilton, carrying an abundance of confidence and emotional weight on his shoulders. His vocals are excellent too, especially during “My Shot” and “Hurricane.”

Other standout performances include Alysha Desloriuex as Eliza Hamilton, whose rendition of “Burn” was a grand highlight of the show. She delivers an unwaveringly powerful yet graceful performance.

Additionally, Carvens Lissaint has a strong and commanding presence on stage as General George Washington, and his performance during “One Last Time” was particularly striking. Yana Perrault as Peggy Schuyler and Maria Reynolds is fantastic. Her performance during “Say No to This” will leave you bewitched.

Ultimately, If you haven’t experienced “Hamilton,” go in prepared for an incredibly entertaining 3 hours. As someone who’s been inundated with classes and work this semester, I found the show great for a relaxing evening off. Make sure to get there early enough to grab a large pretzel.
