Last week, Kscope covered the interior of the new Hill Student Center. This Wednesday, Jan. 20, UAB will celebrate the grand opening of the HSC for all students, complete with free food and prizes.
The Center has been open since early December, however the grand opening will celebrate the opening of all the departments and services available, except for Panera.
These departments include Full Moon, Mein Bowl, One-Stop student services, Starbucks, Student Media, a game room, Student Involvement and Leadership, Student Multicultural and Diversity programs, Career and Professional Development and Student Advocacy, Rights and Conduct, as well as ballrooms and lounge areas meant to seat hundreds of students.
According to Mike Sasser, the new director of the HSC, there will be guided tours available for visitors to get to know the building, a speech from President Ray Watts at 2 p.m. and an official ribbon cutting 2:30 p.m.
In addition to the free food and coffee samples being given out by the vendors at the Center, there will be 2,000 food service and bookstore coupon books distributed to visitors, as well as a prize giveaway of two new mini iPads, according to UAB News.
“I’m most excited about just having people visit the Hill Student Center and seeing what a magnificent building it is and what all we will be able to offer students and the campus community,” Sasser said. “I think this center will change the way student socialize on campus. We offer some great dining options, a wonderful bookstore, and a lot of places for students to hang out and be with their friends.”
