A young black male was shot and killed at approximately 3:45 p.m. today near on 2nd Ave. S, according to Birmingham Police Department. The victim is not connected to UAB. Three witnesses have been taken in for questioning and the death has been declared as intentional.
Lt. Sean Edwards, public information officer for the BPD, said no one else was hurt and specifics are still unfolding.
“It wasn’t a random shooting at all,” Edwards said. “Look at how everything turned out. There was clearly some type of interaction that took place and someone was shot. That’s intentional. That’s not something random.”
A manager at Red Cat said that he noticed police cars but did not hear any gun shots at the time of the incident.
Police arrived at the scene at approximately 3:50 p.m. and will release further details.
