100 years since the very first International Women’s Month was celebrated, women have taken strides to create a world where women are honored in the work field.  Kathy G. and Company, a special event and wedding catering company, has been in service for over 30 years.

Kathy G. and Company has catered at the Aly Stephens Center, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, the Zoo gala, the Botanical Gardens gala, several events at the University of Alabama and many more. catered at the Aly Stephens Center, the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama, the Zoo gala, the Botanical Gardens gala, several events at the University of Alabama and many more.

“I started by hosting a birthday party for my friends wife,” said Kathy Mezrano, founder and owner of Kathy G. and Company. “Someone there told me I should go into catering, so I started this business and I just kept going because I enjoyed it.”

Mezrano said the company has a family business aspect to it.

“When I first started my mother would help me,” Mezrano said. “My mother-in-law got into it, too. My husband came into the company and took over the business part of it. My son is now the general manager of the company.”

Mezrano said she thinks women have started to earn their place in the world, but she is a part of several women’s groups that help women achieve their goals.

“The one I am most proud of is a culinary and hospitality group we just started in Birmingham,” Mezrano said. “The purpose is to give scholarship and grants for women in the food industry.”

Mezrano said this year they have had 22 applicants and they hope to continue to grow.

“It’s women helping women and that’s the whole point of the organization,” Mezrano said.
