It’s time for a flu shot

There are a few places on or near campus to get a flu shot, and some even come with gifts. Flu shots are covered by most insurers but if you are uninsured or underinsured you may have a copay.

Flu shots are an easy way to help the campus stay healthy, and even more now than ever. Getting a flu shot can keep you out of the sick patient area of a doctor’s office where you could be exposed to COVID-19 and prevent you from getting other flu-related complications like pneumonia.

UAB Student Health and Wellness

Student health is still offering immunizations this semester and you can book the appointment through the patient portal. When you schedule select “Primary Care” then “Immunizations” and follow the directions to select a date.

Make sure to set a reminder for the appointment because Student Health has reinstated the $25 no-show fee. Immunizations should be covered by your insurance and student benefit included in tuition. If not covered, you will receive a bill after and will not pay a copay.

Publix Pharmacy

You can schedule a flu shot or do a walk-in at a Publix pharmacy to receive your flu shot. After, you can get a $10 Publix gift card.

Nearby locations: Publix at Midtown, Publix at Edgemont Town Center

CVS Pharmacy

CVS has walk-in or scheduled flu shots available. After your shot you get a $5 off a $20 purchase coupon. Schedule your flu shot here.

Nearby location: 11th Ave CVS

Walmart

You can get a flu shot on your grocery run. It only takes a minute and you can schedule it ahead of time. Also free with most insurance.

Nearby locations: Lakeshore Supercenter, Palisades Neighborhood Market

Target

A Target run doesn’t just have to be for affordable Halloween decorations. You can get a flu shot while you’re there and get a $5 coupon to use on your purchase. Schedule it here.

Nearby location: Brookwood Village
