Just because we’re still in the midst of a global pandemic doesn’t mean you and your partner, date or best friend can’t enjoy a safe, socially distanced Valentine’s date. Here are some date ideas you can try out this Valentine’s Day that are sure to keep you and your partner at least six feet apart.
Movie Night
Is there a movie or television show you’ve both been wanting to watch together? Here is the perfect opportunity to do just that. Just use Facetime, Skype or Zoom to connect with your partner while you both turn on the same movie or TV show on a second screen. You could also use the Netflix Party app to achieve this. Add to the experience by making some popcorn and grabbing your favorite movie-theatre snacks.
Socially Distanced Picnic
Picnics are a great way to meet and chat all while staying six feet apart. Find a large, uncrowded area – like the green – and bring plenty of blankets and your own personal meal and snacks. Maybe even bring your laptop along so you two can watch a movie or TV show.
Make a Meal Over Zoom
Make sure you and your partner print out the same recipe and gather the same ingredients. Set Zoom or Skype up in your kitchen and you’re ready to get cooking. Follow the recipe together and then enjoy the rest of your romantic evening eating the dinner you both prepared.
Bike Riding
It’s hard to ride bikes while staying closer than six feet apart, so a pleasant afternoon bike ride makes for the perfect socially distanced Valentine’s date. Go on an easy ride around one of your neighborhoods or on one of the many trails around Birmingham. You can enjoy nature while also spending time with your partner.
Go For A Walk – Or A Hike
A socially distanced walk is a great way to enjoy fresh air while getting to know or hang out with your partner. Pick an area with pretty scenery, like your favorite park, walking trail or even your neighborhood. If you and your partner are a bit more ambitious, try a hike. There are plenty of places around Birmingham, like Red Mountain or Oak Mountain State Park, where you can have fun and enjoy beautiful views.
Online Game Night
If it’s more you and your partner’s speed to stay inside on Valentine’s and you both love a little competition, you could always try an online game night. There are many online or app versions of Scrabble, Pictionary, Chess, Billiards and Battleship. Just set up the game on your phone or computer, and make sure to Zoom, FaceTime or Skype while playing so you can see the look on your partner’s face when you win.
Stargazing
What is more romantic than laying out under the stars? Grab some thick blankets and be sure to lay six feet apart while you admire the night sky. Bring some binoculars if you have them, you and your partner can download a stargazing app to add to the experience.
