UAB will face off against North Texas this Saturday, Sept. 18 in Denton, Texas. This will be the first C-USA team matchup for both teams.
The Blazers (1-1) and Mean Green (1-1) are both coming off loses from last week. UAB lost to the University of Georgia bulldogs 56-7 while North Texas lost to SMU Mustangs 35-12.
North Texas running back DeAndre Torrey is a player to watch for the Mean Green. He ranks fifth nationally with 315 total rushing yards. Another notable name is walk-on wide receiver Roderic Burns who leads Conference USA in receptions with 18 and has the third most receiving yards with 255.
UAB has committed five turnovers in their last two games and that could be an issue against this Mean Green defense. North Texas is one of the best teams in the nation at creating turnovers with eight total, four apiece in each game.
“Their biggest improvement already is their defense,” said head coach Bill Clark. “They’ve had some times that they were good on defense and probably weren’t quite as good as maybe they wanted to be the last few years. I see them coming back. You know they made a change at their defensive coordinator spot, I know him. They’re going to be better there and they’re always tough.”
This will be the Blazer’s third road game of the season and sixth consecutive road game since the end of their last season.
UAB currently leads the overall series with North Texas 4-1. Winning the last two outings, UAB defeated North Texas 29-21 in 2018 and 26-21 in 2019.
The Blazers are 18-3 against divisional opponents and are the three-time reigning Conference USA West Division champs, which is a C-USA record.
Kickoff is set for 6:30 p.m. Central time. The game will be broadcast on Stadium and available to listen to on WJOX 94.5 in Birmingham.
