UAB to face BYU in Independence Bowl

UAB football will face 12th ranked BYU in the Independence Bowl on Dec. 18, the university announced today.

The Blazers finished the regular season 8-4 and 6-2 in Conference USA play to earn second place in the west division.

UAB will likely be big underdogs in the matchup. The BYU Cougars are 10-2 and notched wins over five PAC-12 teams including conference champion Utah.

The game will present new experiences for both teams. This will be the first matchup between UAB and BYU. Neither team has played in the Independence Bowl before.

This is the fifth season that UAB has been selected to a bowl game under head coach Bill Clark. The Blazers were selected to play in the Gasparilla Bowl last season against South Carolina, but that game was cancelled due to COVID-19 issues within the South Carolina program.

The Independence Bowl will kick off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18 from Independence Stadium in Shreveport, La. The game will be broadcast on ABC. More information can be found at the Independence Bowl’s website.
