UAB men’s basketball opened their season with a 98-47 win in an exhibition game against Mississippi College.

UAB showcased a new roster during a Tuesday exhibition game against Mississippi College. East Tennessee State transfer student, Ladarius Brewer, and LSU transfer Eric Gaines led the Blazers to a 51-point victory, having 14 points each.

The Blazers started strong by winning tipoff then straight into a three-pointer by Jordan “Jelly” Walker. Followed by back-to-back goals by UAB’s Trey Jemison.

With Ladarius Brewer scoring 12 points in the first half, UAB led 42-16 at halftime. UAB opened the second half with Walker’s three free throws and a layup for Jemison. Ty Brewer showed out in the second half with 11 points for the Blazers.

UAB showed an energetic offense with five players scoring in the double digits and only one not scoring. Both Jemison and Ty Brewer had 11 points for the Blazers. Walker totaled 13 points by the end of the game. UAB had a scoring percentage of 60 and had six dunks overall.

Freshman Efrem “Butta” Johnson saw his first collegiate appearance and had two three-pointers and an assist for the Blazers. Johnson was a top recruit in Alabama and turned down several high-ranking schools to attend UAB.

Jemison led the Blazers in rebounds with 12, followed by KJ Buffen with eight and Ty Brewer with seven. The Blazers had 52 rebounds total and 21 points off rebounds.
