This athlete took the time to answer a few questions for Kaleidoscope and help us get to know her better.
How did you first get into volleyball? What inspired you to pursue it at the collegiate level?
When I was younger, my parents introduced me to volleyball, and I’ve loved it ever since. I started playing in seventh grade, fell in love with the sport, and couldn’t imagine being done, so I decided to put in the work to get to the next level.
What positions do you play, and how has your playing style evolved through college?
Growing up, I was a setter and hit for fun. When I came to UAB, they trained me as both. Since coming here, I have evolved into a smarter volleyball player and my overall skill has improved.
How do you deal with pressure and stay focused during high-stakes matches?
When the pressure is on, I think back to my training, and I always tell myself that I’m in this position for a reason. I remind myself that my coaches put me on the floor because they have faith that I can work through the pressure and adversity.
Who in the volleyball world inspires you?
Nicklin Hames has always been someone I have looked up to in volleyball. She was a setter at Nebraska and always made a difference while she was playing.
What is your pre-match ritual? What do you do to get in the right headspace?
Before every match, I pray. I thank God for allowing me to be here and playing the sport I love. He has blessed me in so many ways, so I make sure to talk to him before every game.
Outside of volleyball, what can we find you doing most days?
I love reading, hanging out with my friends and family and watching movies and TV shows, like “The Vampire Diaries.”
