So you’re in the Magic City for Thanksgiving. What’s the plan? This week, UAB Kaleidoscope has a plan to capture all the relaxation and reflection of a week dedicated to gratitude. Read on to find out your plans for the week.
Monday: Interact with Birmingham’s Arts and Culture
Take a break from campus life and explore Birmingham’s art and culture scene. The Birmingham Museum of Art, the largest city museum in the Southeast, contains over 21,000 pieces of geographically diverse art. Better yet, admission is free.
Once you’re feeling inspired, grab a canvas, paintbrushes, paint and your favorite beverage for your very own paint-and-sip night. Light a candle, play some jazz and work your way into becoming the next featured artist at the Birmingham Museum of Art.
Tuesday: Get Outside
Connect with nature and explore the Birmingham great outdoors by visiting Oak Mountain State Park. The park offers a wide variety of activities and is just a 20-minute drive away from campus.
End the day with a trip to Red Cat Coffee for some hot cocoa and head to your favorite lookout spot over the city to take in the sunset.
Wednesday: Pre-Thanksgiving Relaxation
Thanksgiving Eve is different for everyone. Use this day to reflect on what you’re thankful for and reward yourself with a little self-care. Grab your favorite juice or smoothie from Farm Bowl and Juice Company and get a manicure from Genesis Nail Spa, voted Best Nail Salon in our Best of UAB magazine 2023.
Set aside some time to grab a pen and paper and journal a few things you are thankful for while reflecting on the semester.
Thursday: Happy Thanksgiving
Get moving and get involved with the community by signing up for a fun run or Turkey Trot, such as Turkey Trot at the Junction. Meet somebody new and enjoy the fresh air while exploring Birmingham on foot.
Friday: Black Friday
Happy Black Friday! Black Friday means a lot of online and in-store discounts at some of your favorite shops. Create a spending plan so you still have money for next week’s groceries! Visit downtown Homewood to find unique Christmas gifts and the Summit to take advantage of any high-end deals.
When you’re done, go home, put on a Christmas movie and relax. You made it through Thanksgiving week in Birmingham.
