Birmingham is gearing up for one of its biggest vegan events yet as Birmingham Vegan Fest returns Sunday, May 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Cahaba Brewery.
The free event will host more than 70 vendors and welcomes everyone—from dedicated vegans to the “veg curious”—to experience a diverse range of plant-based foods, handcrafted goods and community-driven fun.
Founded by Greg Fuller, Birmingham Vegan Fest is organized by the volunteer-run group Birmingham Vegans, which has been building a plant-based community in the city since 2013. Co-organizer Ned Freeman said the event isn’t just for vegans: “It’s for anyone open to trying new flavors and learning about plant-based foods.”
If you’re wondering what kind of food to expect at the event, the answer is simple: everything. “You can get anything veganized,” Fuller said, encouraging attendees to explore the variety of plant-based options.
Inspired by the lack of healthy options in the South—especially in minority communities—Crawford, who has been vegan for four years, said, “Don’t knock it until you try it.”
Beyond the food, Birmingham Vegan Fest also focuses on giving back. The event will feature three animal sanctuaries, and any leftover proceeds will be donated to help support their work.
