You don’t have to be the next Matisse to dabble in the arts. Here are some ideas to play around with art while you are at home:
- Flower Pressing
Materials: flowers, napkin, heavy objects
Steps: pick some wildflowers from outside. If they are dirty, let them sit in a small bowl of water for some time to remove the dirt. Place them inside a napkin, and put the napkin between two flat, heavy objects (such as textbooks). Remove the flowers after two days and store in a dry place.
2. Graphic Design over Canva
Materials: a computer with internet connection
Steps: create a free account on canva.com. Choose your graphics dimensions (flyer, banner, Instagram post). Search for a template you like, and change the words, fonts, and font colors. You can add your favorite quote, your name, or anything else! Add elements such as dots, and rotate them to give dimension to your graphic. When you are finished, download the graphic as a .png to share on social media or print out to put in your room!
3. Hand Lettering Collage
Materials: paper, colored pens
Steps: pick one word and write it in different styles. Draw a shape, and write the word inside it to fill all the space. Try cursive, or decorate each letter. Feel free to use different colors or the same color for this activity.
4. Adult Coloring
Materials: paper with black and white designs, colored pens, colored pencils, or markers
Steps: Print off some adult coloring sheets online, and the work is all done for you! Just pick your favorite colored pencils and/or markers, and get to work!
