The USGA election commission released the spring 2022 election results to Kaleidoscope.
Ritika Samant leads the initial results of the election for USGA president with 362 votes out of 707, which is 51.202% of the vote. Kyle Adams, who ran unopposed for executive vice president, leads with 645 votes, which is 91.231% of the vote.
The results are not final until the candidates are sworn in.
“I should note that while these individuals have accepted their position, the still must be sworn in before they officially take office,” said election commission committee member Derek Dang in an email.
Samant, a junior majoring in neuroscience, currently serves as USGA’s vice president of student services. Her platform focused on restructuring to address the root causes of issues within USGA.
She defeated Hannah Syed, a junior majoring in public health and biology and current College of Arts and Sciences senator. She campaigned on making the internal structure of USGA more efficient.
Marcus Curry Jr., a sophomore political science major and current CAS senator leads for the position of vice president of communications with 58.274% of the vote against Jonathan Baker, a junior majoring in public health.
Eunice Choe, a junior majoring in chemistry and current CAS senator, won vice president of student services unopposed. John Ellis Kuykendall, a junior majoring in business administration and neuroscience and current CAS senator won vice president of finance unopposed.
Only 707 votes were cast in this year’s election, a voter turnout of 5.73%. This is a sharp decrease from the last election which had a turnout of 12.43%.
The vote totals for each college’s senators are below. Each school has vacancies and open senate seat applications open March 9.
