After a battle that saw challenger Whitt make a huge comeback in the last few days, Richard Daniel stood his ground to retain the Birmingham Big Battle title for a 3rd week. Standing between Daniel and a month-long reign with the belt, however, is a man who’s been all over Birmingham: Kenny Loften.
Challenger: Kenny Loften
Representing Birmingham by way of Hoover, Kenny Loften has been putting in some serious time over the past two years to step up his presence in Birmingham’s scene, and it’s been paying off: Between collaborations with other Birmingham artists such as BBB’s first champ, Callie Wilson, and opening for this year’s Welcome Concert with Kid Ink, Loften has been putting out some solid verses and some strong performances in local mainstays such as the Syndicate Lounge and Workplay. He comes into this week’s battle looking to change the perceptions of not just Birmingham rap, but what a black kid with a bandanna can do in today’s world as well.

Champion: Richard Daniel
Daniel is on his way to his fourth defense of the belt, and he’s making his presence felt as a fighting champion. The former UAB medical student is still holding things down in between performing, with his next appearance coming up on October 25th at the Syndicate Lounge. He brings his “Range” to the Battle to help keep the belt around his waist for a full month.
