Music and Palestinian flags filled First Avenue South in Birmingham on Sunday as people came together to protest violence by the Israeli government in Palestine. The event held outside Railroad Park featured speeches by several local activists and a march that circled around the streets of the Midtown area. This is the second protest in two weeks. Members of the UAB community received free Pfizer COVID-19 vaccinations in an event at Bartow arena today. The May 18 event held from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. was the first of two this summer. A second vaccination event will be held on June 8 at Bartow Arena for new and incoming students where they can receive their second or first dose. “There’s a lot of desire to offer to younger people and so that what we’re here offering today,” said Jaye Locks, ambulatory services administrator for UAB Medicine. “We want to make sure that everybody is covered.” While the…

Departing Blazer football players had an opportunity to show off for NFL scouts at UAB’s Pro Day on April 8 at the UAB Football Operations Center. The six Blazer players taking part were running back Spencer Brown, long snapper Jacob Fuqua, defensive end Jordan Smith, defensive back Brontae Harris and wide receivers Austin Watkins and Myron Mitchell. This year’s Pro Day was of extra importance. The small store in the heart of Birmingham’s Southside sells everything from c—k rings to chicken feet to cold brews. Governor Kay Ivey announced at a press conference Friday morning that individuals age 16 and older will be eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine starting Monday, April 5. She made this announcement at a vaccine clinic in her hometown of Camden, Ala. “Truly, this vaccine is our ticket back to normal life. The USGA election commission shared the final results of the 2021 USGA elections today. The results are largely the same as the initial vote totals indicated with small changes. Ritika Samant, a sophomore majoring in neuroscience, proved victorious in the Monday runoff for the Vice President of Student Services beating Hannah Syed 269 votes to 142. Syed, a sophomore majoring in chemistry, will still serve in USGA in the position of as senator for the College of Arts & Sciences as she finished in first place for that position during the general election.
